Most of us are familiar with the fairytale, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” In it, an evil queen plots the death of her stepdaughter, Snow White. The reason—jealousy because the young girl is more beautiful than the queen. The story also states that the queen had a beautiful physical appearance. But that beauty obviously does not include her inward nature. On the inside, she is horrible. If that could be translated into the physical, she would be quite unsightly!
So then why do we measure beauty by what we can see? We are often quick to judge based on outward appearance. Too often we leap to the conclusion that someone is beautiful based on what we see. When we do this we are coming to a conclusion based solely on appearance. We don’t actually know what kind of person the individual is. It’s really a character thing. Only after getting to know a person can you really label them as beautiful. We may also be losing out on lifetime friendships or relationships with high quality, beautiful people whose beauty may not show outwardly.
Snow White’s stepmother was evil within—plotting the girl’s destruction on several occasions. Shouldn’t the mean queen’s actions and inner workings of her warped mind make her ugly instead of beautiful?
I challenge you to rethink the whole idea of beauty. What is real beauty, what you see outwardly or that which is generated inwardly?
