What is beauty? While the answer varies from one culture to another, it usually pertains to an attractive physical appearance. People are often esteemed as beautiful merely because their physical features are arranged in such a way as to be pleasing to the eyes. But should that which is easily observable on an outward level constitute beauty? Unfortunately, that is how we (and even some animals) generally decide what is beautiful and therefore desirable.
My book, The Leah Factor: Recognizing True Beauty and Worth, explores this timeless misunderstanding. Leah lived in the shadow of her beautiful sister Rachel. Marginalized for years because of her physical appearance, and unloved by her husband, Leah finds favor with God! Although not visible to the eye, Leah possessed a rare beauty in God’s sight.
We often make rash judgments based on an individual’s physical appearance. We should realize that a beautiful physical façade is only that. It does not paint a true portrait. The true measure of an individual is discovered in what lies within. When hiring someone (or choosing a mate), characteristics such as honesty, integrity, and trustworthiness should take precedence over physical looks. But these characteristics can be missed if we focus on the physical. What if that gorgeous man or woman robs your business blind or leaves you with no peace in your relationship? Will their attractiveness even matter?
So I invite you to share, what do you believe true beauty is?
